Ali Mercer
Assistant and Librarian
Ali Mercer was born in England. In 1999 she and her family moved to South Africa for a period of five years where she studied the flute with Bridget Stroebel, Principal Piccolo player and 2nd Flautist, Cape Philharmonic Orchestra, and Eleanor Mullins. She has played in various locations throughout Southern Africa including the Namibian Desert!
On returning to this country in 2004, she established a flute and recorder teaching practice for amateur musicians, with a particular emphasis and interest in helping complete beginners, especially children.
She is currently studying the flute with Russell Gillespie. She is an active member of "La Flûte Harmonique" for which she has arranged several compositions since its inception in 2004. |
Barbara Whitehead
Assistant and Membership Administrator
Barbara Whitehead, originally from London, studied the Piano and Singing before embarking on her Professional Nurse Training at St. Mary's Hospital Paddington.
She was a member of The Corydon Singers and Tallis Chamber Choir prior to moving to Cheshire, where she sang for many years with the William Byrd Singers and Tudor Consort. She has performed as solo recitalist with various chamber ensembles, choirs and choral societies.
Following her retirement from nursing as a Clinical Nurse Specialist in Intensive care and Diabetes, she now devotes her time to music and flute playing in the local area, and studies the flute with Russell Gillespie.
She has participated in several flute Masterclasses and Workshops, assists with the LFH Auxiliary Flute choir and is a founder member and Membership Administrator of "La Flûte Harmonique".
