Your Flute
BUYING A FLUTE As purchasing a flute along with the correct headjoint can be a daunting, expensive and sometimes overwhelming experience, it is advantageous to try to obtain the best possible advice available prior to embarking on such a venture.
Many factors need to be considered and taken into account as it is difficult initially to distinguish between one flute and another. The quality and sound, along with the mechanism and action of the flute, is just as important as the material from which it is made. Frequently a second hand professional flute which is perhaps heavily tarnished, may prove to be a better instrument and investment than for example the purchase of a brand new flute. The headjoint is especially a key factor in making your final decision, as the sound is mostly formed in this part of the instrument. However, it is always possible to consider the option of buying a superior headjoint at a later date, as the main priority is to acquire a flute that is mechanically sound. Russell is able not only to liaise with relevant specialist flute outlets both here and abroad, but also to give detailed individual advice, help and information which is specifically related to the student's requirements.
